Turneffe is an atoll, I have fished since the late 70s. And I know this camp and the owners. Good food and good fishing.
We fly to Belize City. Get picked up at airport by members of the camp, and travel by van 20 minutes to the dock, which has food and drinks in a restaurant/bar. Then we board a 48 foot boat, and in 90 minutes we are in the camp.
Bonefishing: small bonefish as in Bahamas, Yucatan, etceteras. Water is often shallow, so a 6 or 7 weight rod is best for them, and #6 flies are best. Most fishing is done from a skiff, but there is plenty of hard bottom if you want to wade.
Permit fishing: the inside lagoons have large schools of permit, often 20 or more fish. Outside flats offer more traditional permit flats fishing, that is, singles and pods. Best tackle is a #9 or #10 weight rod, with Merkins, Ragheads, and other crab flies.
Tarpon: we have a full moon this week, so there is a good chance to fish big tarpon in deeper flats and channels. A clear intermediate line or a fast sink is best. You can fish the tarpon well before breakfast and come back eat and then go out for a regular day's fishing.
Jacks and cudas: one of my friends was at the camp this year and found big jack right off the camp, crashing bait in the morning. Took a few on poppers. Cudas are generally found in the bone flats.
Snorkel: some anglers take a break and snorkel at lunch time, or when they get back from fishing. Me, I’m having an adult beverage when I get back. Your choice.
Price is as follows: Doubles occupancy and skiff: under $3,500. Single room and skiff is under $4,700 - plus, air fare, drinks & tips. Deposit: 25%.
