Chatham Sandeel

Chatham sandeel

Materials:
Hook - Mustad 34007, size 1/0 or 2/0
Eyes - medium barbels
Thread - Flat waxed nylon, white
Tail - In order of application: a dozen strands of aqua-blue FisHair, two or three strands of green (Kelly green or dark green) thin flashabou -- the green flashabou should extend about 1/2 inch beyond the FisHair, a dozen strands of yellow FisHair, 6 to 8 strands of thin pearl Flashabou, a couple dozen strands of white FisHair (about the same amount of white as the blue and yellow FisHair already applied)
Underwing - Long white bucktail
Overwing - In order of application: a dozen strands of yellow FisHair, a dozen strands of light blue FisHair, 6 strands of green FisHair (I often mix medium green and dark green), a dozen strands of dark blue FisHair, topped by a dozen or so strands of rainbow or peacock "Long Brite" or "Wing N' Flash".

Comments: This is my version of a pattern originated by Juro Mukai in the mid- to late 1990s. The color scheme and layering of colors is also similar to the Bucktail Streamer pattern by Ray Bondorew. This was a very effective pattern for me along Cape Cod beaches.
