Materials:
Hook - Mustad 34007, size 4, 2, 1 (shown), 1/0
Thread - Flat waxed nylon, match yarn color
Claws - hackle tips with marabou in the center (I prefer the claws are darker than the body, and the marabou matches the body color)
Body - Aunt Lydia sparkle yarn (or other stiff yarn)
Legs - sili legs or rubber legs, colored to match body
Eyes - medium or large hourglass eyes
Comments: Stripers love to eat crabs. Tan imitates the lsady crab rather well. I also tied a green version to imitate the green crabs (an invasive species from Europe) that were common on the more protected flats. These patterns were effective when sight fishing, though I have heard of people doing well dead drifting this pattern in troughs next to flats. |
